Kraljevica is a town and a port in the Vinodol Channel, at the entrance in to the Gulf of Bakar. Situated in the center of a cove which spreads from Cape Ostro and Fortica to the south-east in a total length of 600 m.
It developed into a seaside resort, with villas and hotels. It is located on the main road (M2, E65) Rijeka - Zadar.
Kraljevica has a long tradition in tourism. On the peninsula Ostro, the center of tourism in Kraljevica, the first public beach was built back in 1896. Kraljevica - History and Cultural Heritage:
The town developed along a natural harbor of the old town of Hreljin in the 16th century. A more intense development occurred in the 17th century under the Zrinskis, which reached its peak under Charles VI, who built the Royal Port (Portus regius) as the final destination of King Charles Road. In the first half of the 17th century the Zrinskis built the "Old Town", a three-storey building in tracts around two inner wards. A massive bell tower (1790) with a Baroque cowl decorates the front of the castle, and the church of St. Nicholas is close to the front. The construction of the "New Town" at the entrance into the Gulf of Bakar was initiated by P. Zrinski in 1650, in the form of a fortified castle based on the Renaissance concept of a quadrangular plan with cylindrical angle towers.
