Jelsa is a tourist centre on the northern side of the central part of the island. It used to be one of the most significant maritime, shipbuilding and trade centres of the Adriatic, starting point for ocean-going sailing vessels carrying best wines of Hvar, olive oil and salted fish.
Dense pine woods, beautiful sandy beaches, vineyards and olive groves make Jelsa particularly attractive. Situated in the middle of the island it is almost an ideal starting point for many excursions organized to reveal you the beauty of the islands of Hvar and Brac, and Makarska.
Jelsa - Beaches:
Jelsa has a well-indented coast line with numerous bays and promontories on which you can find a true pleasure and peace. We will mention some of the most popular places closest to the town of Jelsa.
Mina is the most popular sandy beach situated only 500 m from the centre of Jelsa. Ideal beach for small children.

Grebišće is a popular sandy beach situated about 1.5 km from Jelsa. It consists of two sandy bays: Vela i Mola Grebišće (Small and Big Grebišće). Facilities: restaurant "Čorni Petar" beach club.
Zenčišća is a beach situated 3 km east from Jelsa. It is used to be a beach of hotel which is derelicted nowdays.
The Bay of Saint Luke is a pebble beach situated 4 km to the east of Jelsa is also an archeological site where the remnants of ceramics and buildings belonging to the Roman Times were found. It is well known due to a church on the promontory.
Bočić is a beach paved with concrete and stone is situated some 300 m from the centre of Jelsa. It includes the area from the Jadran hotel to the Fontana hotel.
Soline is a peninsula some 6 km from Jelsa, which is full of beautiful small pebble beaches on the southern part while the northern side offers mainly flat stones.
Zečevo is a small islet situated infront of Jelsa, about 20 minutes by taxi boat. It used to be popular nudist beach.
Mala Stiniva beach is a marvellous pebble beach with crystal sea. It is well known for the sheer cliffs surrounding it. It is about is a 30 minute drive from Jelsa.
Nudist Beaches - Due to numerous bays in this area there are many naturist beaches including also some parts of the Soline peninsula, the islet of Zečevo.
Jesla - Accommodation:
The first hotel with 13 single rooms and a restaurant was opened in Samohod-Dubokovics' house. The first arrival of foreign guests is considered as being the beginning of modern and organized tourism on the Island.

Jelsa - Camps:
- Grebisce Camp is located in a cove, 1.5 km from Jelsa, in the shade of pine and mandarin trees on three hectares of land.
- Mina Camp is located on a peninsula and occupies an area of 2 hectares, mostly covered with pine trees. Jelsa is only 500 m away, while the sea only 20 m. The camp grounds are surrounded by rock, pebble or sand beaches that are ideal for children.
- Holiday Camp is located 800 meters from the town of Jelsa. It is situated in a beautiful cove and the entire camp touches the shoreline. Its 25 hectares are covered by tall pine trees.
Jelsa - Sports and Recreation:
Jelsa has a sports hall (basketball, volleyball and other sports) with an outdoor football field. All inhabitants and visitors to the Island are welcome to take full advantage of the facility.
