Zivogosce hotels (Central Dalmatia)
Živogošće is a village and harbour on the Makarska Riviera,
20 km southeast of Makarska. Chief occupations are farming,
fishing and tourism. Zivogosce is located on the main road
(M2, E65).
It is comprised of three smaller, non-coherent places on the
coast: Porat - Mala Duba – Blato, and old hamlets along the old road.
It is only 20 km away from Makarska, 80 km from Split
and 120 km from Dubrovnik.
Zivogosce - Beaches:
Natural beauties of olive groves and pine woods hovering
over small pebbled beaches that are 6 km long, clean and unpolluted sea, all in the foothill of a big mountain
(hilltop Sutvid – 1155 m).
Zivogosce is situated on the slopes of Biokovo Mountain,
where several beautiful pebble beaches surrounded by
a pine forest are located.

There are numerous options for activities. With a number
of activities on sport terrains, there are also the cycling and
trekking roads and water sports are popular, too. There are

As a settlement, Živogošće is for the first time mentioned in the mid 13th century. The village was first mentioned under its

and newspaper-stands. The seasonal post-office is in Porat.
There are excursion boats leaving every day towards the
nearby islands organizing fish picnics as well.
Mount Biokovo offers various options for trekking and mountain climbing. You take a minibus for one part of the road, and then take a walk to St. Jure hilltop (1762m) or take a 5 hour long
tour of Biokovo through the fields and pine forests. Make sure
you bring enough drinking water with you.

Brač island, Imotski, Dubrovnik, Omiš, Međugorje. All

The Franciscan monastery in Živogošće, founded in 1616 , was
this area's center of spiritual life and literacy, with a rich library and valuable art work. The Franciscan monastery, which makes
an architectural unit together with the church and the bell tower, was built in the 18th century. The church contains Baroque furnishings, while the monastery has an old library and archives.
Illyrian tumuli have been found on the location of the village. An epigram dedicated to a local water spring, carved into rock near the sea, has remained undamaged since Roman times. The old part of the village with a tower at the foot of the hill consists of clusters of picturesque stone houses.
Below the Franciscan monastery is a large freshwater spring, which remains on a dry terrain during the low tide. Above the spring is a carved Latin elegiac couplet in eulogy of the
life-giving earth.
