Omis is the tourist centre of a 35 km long Split Riviera of outstanding beauty.
Omis lies at the intersection of the main road (M2, E65) and the regional road, connecting Omis with the hinterland in the Cetina valley (via Zadvarje). North of Omis, in the village of Zakucac, is the hydro-electric power plant "Split".
The unusual Climate in this region is a result of its position between the seaside and mountains. The differing climatic influences are visible in the vegetation of the region. The average temperature in January is about 4 degress celcius and in July the average temperature is above 23 degrees celcius. The average rainfall for this region is about 1400mm per year, which highlights the difference between this region compared to Split, and Livno. This is the reason for its sub-Mediterranean climate.
Cetina River: Without any doubt, the river Cetina is one of the nicest places in Croatia where you can experience the magic of a rafting adventure. It is situated in a luscious region surrounded by quaint little villages.
The river supplies drinking water to much of Dalmatia. The source of the Cetina river is situated in a small village (called Cetina) 7 kilometres away from the town of Vrlika. Gospodarska pecina (Noble Cave) is situated 100 meters above the source. This cave has important historical significance as it has been used as shelter for many people throughout history.
The Cetina River and its magnificent canyon are cut into the picturesque mountainous massif in the very background of the town. On its way to the sea the river has created numerous long sandy beaches which are characteristics of this part of the coast and make it one of the most beautiful, unusual and incomparable.
Isolated coves where you can always find "your own" beach, or auto camp at the very seaside are waiting for you. The river Cetina, with its magnificent canyon, which has cut its way to the sea into the impressive mountain massif at the beautiful, one kilometers long sandy beach make this part of the Adriatic coast unique and incomparable.
Omis - Beaches :
- The Big Beach is sitauted in the very center of Omis, it is easily reachable in just few minutes walk from your apartment. This 800 meters long sandy beach is ideal for families with small children and young people. It offers lot of activities such as volleyball, football, windsurfing...
- Slavinj Beach is situated 10 minutes walk from the centre of Omis. It is relativelly small pebble beach, uder the shade of ancient pine trees. It is the beginning of the series of beautiful beaches that stretch for more than a mile, from Omis all the way to the settlement of Nemira
- Brzet Beach is situated right next to Slavinj beach. Maybe the most popular beach in Omis for those who preffer pebble beaches and thick pine tree shadows. It is more than 400 meters long, with pine-wood forest and good shadow

The town Omiš, thanks to its excellent position, surrounded with steep rocky mountain cliffs, the river Cetina and the Adriatic sea, creates a rare and wonderful impressive landscape, so that the ecological, tourism in the village households and the sports like rafting or cayaking on the streams of the Cetina, free mountain climbing, paragliding, windsurf, swimming marathons and beech volleyball have become an attractive parts of the tourist offer.

There are 30 free climbing trails on the cliffs of the Cetina canyon; water sports equipment is rented; a swimming marathon for recreation enthusiasts is regularly organized. Very good connectivitys with the nearby city of Split and beautiful natural beaches of this part of the Riviera have enabled the development of tourist trade whose traces are to be seen even before the World War II. A number of small fishermen's villages along the Riviera have had a long tourist tradition and culture.
Omis - History :
This region is very important, both historically and archaeologically. Along the Cetina’s tall canyon walls real archaeological fortune can be found: bottle-axes from the stone-age, shields from roman soldiers, personal items from middle-age peasants... and many other interesting artefacts. These findings confirm that people from this region are descended from an historical-age.
Omis - Cultural Heritage :
- The Mirabella tower - 13-19 ct., with a wonderfull view to town and sea..
- Fortress Starigrad - Fortica - the remains of mediaeval fortifications include the southern town gate with a part of the walls, the south-western quadrangular tower on "Fosal", the fortification on the cliff above the town and the grandiose ruins of the fortress Starigrad (Fortica) on the hill above Omis (311 m).
- On the square is the parish church from the 17th century with a nice portal (1621) and a bell tower; it features two paintings by the painter Matteo Ingoli from Ravenna and a Gothic wooden cross from the 15th century.
- One of the Renaissance-style houses close to the church houses the local museum collection (archaeological, cultural, historical and ethnographic exhibits from the region of Omis and the nearby Poljica). At the end of the main street is a small church of the Holy Spirit from the 16th century.
- Along the river is the house of the Radman family with a collection of stone fragments (ancient times, Gothic, Renaissance) and cultural and historical artefacts (18th-19th c.). On the right bank of the Cetina is the locality of Priko with a small pre-Romanesque church of St. Peter (10th c.), mentioned in the deeds of national rulers from the 10th and the 11th centuries.
- The Franciscan monastery, built in the 18th century, has a collection of works of art, the archives containing Turkish documents and a library.
