Šibenik lies almost in the middle of the Croatian Adriatic Coast, in the picturesque and indented bay around the mouth of the river Krka, one of the most beautiful Karst rivers in Croatia. Šibenik has a population of 41,012.
The Šibenik region covers about 1,000 square kilometers and is composed of an island, a coastal region, and its hinterland. The county of Šibenik has 242 islands, islets and rocks. Most of this archipelago lies in the north-west part of Šibenik's waters and is very indented, bare, and sparsely inhabited.
The county of Šibenik has only 10 island settlements. The most numerous group of islands are the Kornati, widely known for their bizarre shapes and luxurious and magnificent landscapes.
From Šibenik bay the open sea and the islands are reached through a narrow winding channel about 10 kilometers long and 300 - 1200 meters wide. 
This region is characterized by limestone mountain crests (the Trtar chain stretches towards the south-east, and in front of it is the lower Šibenik-coastal chain), small valleys (Gornje and Donje polje) and plateaus - the bases of agriculture.
The vegetation is mostly spruce in the hinterland, and maquis on the coast and islands. The Šibenik region has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers cooled by the maestral breeze, and dry winters.
Sibenik - Beaches:
Jadrija beach contains several beach volleyball courses and diving centers that organize diving courses and underwater photo-sessions. Jadrija has become a favorite place in Sibenik region for sports enthusiasts. Due to the favorable winds most of the time, Jadrija is a well known windsurfers beach. It also hosts regattas of the Croatian windsurfing championship. Jadrija's coast is well protected with several small islands which makes it a good place for beginners as well.
Jadrtovac beach is placed in Morinj bay that cuts deeply into the coastline, is 8 km south-east of the old part of Sibenik. Morinj bay is well-protected from open-sea winds; therefore, its waters are warmer than at other places on the coast - great for children and elders.
Solaris beach is cobbled, with a pebbled bay, suitable for children, surrounded by a pine forest.
Sibenik - Accommodation:
Solaris Holiday Resort is situated 4 km from Šibenik. It is made up of five hotels (Jakov, Andrija, Ivan, Jure and Niko). Within this tourist complex there is also an auto camp with 800 camping units, a yacht marina with 305 sea berths and 200 dry berths, as well as the largest wellness center in Dalmatia.

Sibenik - Entertainment:
International Children's Festival June 23rd - July7th 2007, which takes place every summer - all the Šibenik streets, stairs, squares, passages, the waterfront, parks, the Cathedral and the theater belong to the numerous stages which become lively and busy during the summer time at the unique world performance.
Evenings of Šibenik "Klapa" songs
Held every year in the second half of August, organized by the Šibenik Tourist Board, are the Evenings of "Klapa" Songs. The entire event takes place in the old part of town on a beautiful square surrounded by old houses.
Organ Summer School - August 17th-31st
Šibenik is the town with the greatest number of church-organs in Croatia. There are six old and four modern organs in the very town of Šibenik and nine more in the Šibenik County. The Organ Summer School courses consist of lectures where the organ players and music teachers enrich their knowledge and experience.
The Fair in Medieval Šibenik, September 29th, on the day of St. Michael
Dalmatian Chanson Evenings is a festival of the authentic Dalmatian song that has been held in Šibenik since 1998. The performers are usually also the authors of music and lyrics and they know how to adjust the words to the melody and how to create a special atmosphere.

Sibenik - History:
Šibenik was initially created as a castrum, a fortification or a campus, beneath the St. Michael’s Fortress that still dominates the town. The town is surrounded by the fortresses of St. Michael, St. John and Šubićevac.

Transportation connectivity
Šibenik is connected to other towns by frequent bus lines, trains, andferries. The closest airport is Zemunik Zadar which is situated some 40 km from Šibenik.
