CROATIA - DALMATIA - FREE CLIMBING

in Paklenica National Park

Croatia - Dalmatia- National Park Paklenica

Paklenica National Park is the most important alpine climbing centre in Croatia with a recognised international reputation. The latest trend in alpine climbing in Paklenica coincides with the beginnings of free climbing. A strong foothold was made in 1984 when free climbing became popular in Europe. Since then, interest for the cliffs in Paklenica has grown immensely, primarily for the Aniæa kuk cliff (400 m).
In the region of Paklenica there are some twenty peaks suitable for climbing. Short sporting courses currently number 72; and there are over 250 longer routes (up to 300 m) and it is possible for adventure lovers and "big wall" climbers to find something to their liking. Apart from Croatian climbers, the Park is also visited by foreigner climbers.
Technical improvements and an ever-increasing number of climbers have brought about the better equipping of courses, causing the quick change of records. The main free-climbing season is in the spring and fall, but it is possible to combine free climbing and swimming in the sea, all on the same day.
